Shabnam's Story

Before becoming a driving instructor in High Wycombe, my career took a very different path. After completing my degree in Business & Finance Management, I achieved my dream job with a leading corporate bank in London's finance sector. But life changed when I became a mother. The demands of my high-pressure role meant I couldn't give my family the time they deserved, and I knew I needed a change.

That's when I made a bold decision: to retrain as a driving instructor. I wanted the flexibility to work on my own terms, and more importantly, to be present for my children. Although making such a dramatic career shift was daunting, becoming a female ADI gave me the balance and fulfilment I needed. Looking back, it was the best decision of my life. Through Learn with Shabnam, I've found immense satisfaction helping learners and aspiring instructors reach their goals. There's nothing quite like seeing a student smile after passing their driving test, or watching a trainee instructor launch a new career.

Of course, the journey has had its challenges. Road intimidation can unsettle even the most confident learner, and part of my job is to keep drivers focused and relaxed despite the stress. Long hours behind the wheel can also take their toll; I address this by maintaining healthy routines to care for my own wellbeing, ensuring I can give my best to every student.

I'm proud to be part of an industry where female instructors excel. Both my corporate banking background and personal experiences have shown me that patience and determination are key ingredients for success, qualities I bring to every lesson. Training Potential Driving Instructors (PDIs) is a completely unique challenge compared to teaching learners, both are deeply rewarding, sharing in my students' joy as they achieve their dreams.

One achievement I'll always treasure is helping a lady who had faced numerous rejections learn to drive and ultimately pass her test. Despite language barriers and a lack of confidence, together we persevered, and three attempts later she succeeded. Her gratitude and joy deeply moved me, reminding me daily of why I love what I do. For me, being a driving instructor isn't just about skill, it's about making real differences in people's lives.
